San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree would like Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman to settle down about the one play he made during the NFC Championship Game.
Sherman secured the Seahawks’ Super Bowl berth when he tipped a pass from quarterback Colin Kaepernick that was intended for Crabtree. The pass was intercepted by Seattle linebacker Malcolm Smith, and the Seahawks went on to win 23-17.
Moments after making the game-saving play, Sherman was interviewed by FOX Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews, at which point the cornerback went on an impassioned rant about Crabtree being a “sorry” receiver. He later called him “mediocre.”
Crabtree took exception to Sherman’s words and high self-opinion after the game.
“He’s a TV guy. I’m not a TV guy. I play ball. He makes one play, he talks. … We’re on the field, and he ain’t doing nothing,” Crabtree said, via the San Jose Mercury News. “That’s one play he made. … That’s probably the only play he made the whole game.”
Crabtree’s assessment is pretty accurate, given the fact that only two passes were thrown in Sherman’s direction during the game. On the first play, Sherman picked up a holding penalty, and on the second one, Sherman ended the game — sending his team to the Super Bowl and the 49ers home.
