gatorade1A middle school student in Gaffney, S.C., has been disciplined after admitting to putting a cap-full of bleach into a Gatorade cooler during a basketball game between Gaffney Middle School and Granard Middle School.

The incident occurred Wednesday, according to Cherokee County School Superintendent Dr. Quincie Moore. Moore confirmed that the student, along with three other students who witnessed the act, are facing discipline, but she would not comment on what their punishment is.

Both teams drank from the cooler, and while some students reported a burning sensation in their mouths and upset stomachs, no one required medical attention.

“As sad and unfortunate as this situation is we are happy that it wasn’t any worse,” said Dr. Moore.

The district has filed a police report and the incident remains under investigation, but no charges have been filed.
