No injuries were reported, and all stadium employees reportedly made their way safely out of the ballpark. Firefighters battled the fire but were hampered by the weather, as temperatures in the Grand Rapids area fell to single digits.

Fifth Third Ballpark, opened in 1994, is home to the Western Michigan Whitecaps, Detroit’s Class A affiliate. The park is scheduled to host the Midwest League All-Star Game in June.

Though the full extent of the damage has not yet been determined, Whitecaps managing partner Denny Baxter told WZZM-TV that the team “will play baseball this spring.”
