J.R. Smith‘s hijinks have caught up with him.
The NBA has fined Smith $50,000 for what it calls “repeated unsportsmanlike conduct,” according to CBSSports.com, after he was seen untying Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion‘s shoe at the free-throw line Sunday. The league reportedly met with Smith after the incident and issued a warning instead of a fine.
But that didn’t stop Smith from trying the shenanigans again Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons. He attempted to untie Greg Monroe‘s shoe but was unsuccessful.
Smith boasted on Twitter that people were just catching on to his actions, saying it’s something he does often.

Knicks head coach Mike Woodson wasn’t impressed with his guard’s antics.
“He shouldn’t be doing stuff like that,” he said, via ESPN.com. “I’m going to talk to him a little more about it when I get in there. His focus should just be on playing basketball. That’s what it’s about, and those are things you just don’t do. You think you’ve seen it all, and something creeps in.”
