There have been countless basketball shots made on the TD Garden’s parquet floor, but very few are as awesome as the shot Newton North’s Brendan Durkin made Saturday night.
Durkin, a special needs student, has served as the team’s manager for the past six years. Over the weekend, he had the opportunity to play the final seconds of the game and made his presence felt, sinking a shot as time expired.
“This was my first time doing this,” Durkin told the Newtonite. “I’ve never been on the court before. I’ve been managing for about six years now, and this feels really nice. I haven’t played much really. Playing tonight, here at the [home of the] Celtics, this was really a lot of fun. Playing for my first coach, coach Connolly, he’s so supportive of me. He looks up to me, my team looks up to me.”
