Peyton Manning yelled the name of a Nebraska city for a good cause on Sunday.
The Denver Broncos quarterback is not only heading to his third Super Bowl with a win over the New England Patriots, but he also raised $24,800 for his charity in the process.
Eight Omaha-based businesses joined forces to donate money to Manning’s Peyback Foundation every time Manning uttered the word “Omaha” during the AFC Championship Game, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell. The businesses pledged to donate $800 each time Manning yelled out the word at the line of scrimmage.
Manning shouted “Omaha” 31 times during the Broncos win.
“This has been terrific for us,” said David G. Brown, president and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, which headed up the effort. “Before Friday, we had calculated that news coverage of Omaha had generated the equivalent of about $10 million in advertising.”
