The Quinnipiac men’s hockey team enjoyed its best season ever in 2012-13, ascending to No. 1 in the country before falling to rival Yale in the national championship game.
The Bobcats have been among the nation’s best again this season, and though they dropped the second game of a home-and-home against slumping Merrimack on Saturday, freshman forward Sam Anas came through with what might be the goal of the year so far in college hockey.
Anas’ goal, which cut the QU deficit to 5-3 in an eventual 6-3 loss, was first deflected out of the air by junior Jordan Samuels-Thomas near the left faceoff dot. Then, with the puck still flipping through the air, Anas tipped it with a backhand to himself before using a baseball swing to hammer it past Merrimack goalie Rasmus Tirronen.
