Two midseason trades already are in the books, so the Boston Celtics are clearly in “sell” mode. They could probably bring back their biggest haul, however, if they parted with point guard Rajon Rondo.
Rondo is one of several Celtics players who have been the subject of persistent trade rumors. Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, Kris Humphries and Gerald Wallace will all have their names thrown around in trade reports until the Feb. 20 trade deadline — or until they are shipped out — but Rondo remains the most intriguing chip.
After just a handful of games back, Rondo has shown very little rust for a player who had not played a competitive game in close to a year. If he keeps this up and his minutes gradually grow over the next couple of weeks, Rondo could be an enticing target for a number of teams in need of a competent point guard. Of course, Rondo is far more than competent.
NESN.com digital editor Zack Cox and Celtics/NBA editor Ben Watanabe met up to talk about an eventful week for the Celtics. They touched on Rondo’s return, the team’s recent moves and which player might be the next one out the door.
