Report: Nick Caserio Wanted Dolphins GM Job If He Could Fire Joe Philbin

nick caserioNew England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio evidently only would take the Miami Dolphins’ general manager job under his conditions.

Caserio wanted the ability to fire Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin, but owner Stephen Ross wouldn’t let him, according to the Miami Herald. That’s why Caserio turned down the Dolphins’ offer.

Caserio wanted to hire a new head coach this year. Under Ross’ plan, Caserio would have to share power with Philbin, a head coach he didn’t want.

It’s interesting to contemplate if Caserio would have wanted to hire Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as his hand-picked head coach. If that were the case, the Dolphins could have considerably weakened the biggest threats in the AFC East with one swift hire.
