The Denver Broncos’ banged-up defense lost another key contributor Sunday.
Multiple media outlets reported Monday that cornerback Chris Harris tore his ACL during the team’s divisional-round win over the San Diego Chargers, ruling him out for the rest of the playoffs.
Harris suffered the injury in coverage away from the play midway through the third quarter and was replaced by veteran Quentin Jammer, whom Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers promptly took advantage of. San Diego scored 17 fourth-quarter points after Harris’ departure before eventually falling short in the 24-17 loss.
“I played like [expletive],” Jammer told reporters after the game, according to The Denver Post. “It wasn’t anything physical. It was mental. I was sitting on routes I shouldn’t have been sitting on.”
Harris is the fifth Broncos defensive starter to suffer a season-ending injury this season, joining Von Miller, Kevin Vickerson, Rahim Moore and Derek Wolfe. The third-year Kansas product ranked fourth among Denver defenders with 65 tackles during the regular season and tied for the team lead with three interceptions.
Denver will host the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game this Sunday.
