The biggest battle between Russell Wilson and Peyton Manning won’t be decided until Super Bowl Sunday, but at least one competition was settled Thursday.
Wilson beat out Manning as the NFL’s leader in jersey sales, according to USA Today’s Tom Pelissero. Manning held the title for most of this year and even some of last season since signing with the Denver Broncos before the 2012 campaign. However, Wilson has overtaken the top spot.
Wilson wasn’t the only quarterback to bypass Manning, who fell to third on the list. In fact, Wilson wasn’t even the only quarterback from the NFC West to jump the Broncos star, as San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick leapt into the No. 2 spot. Two other quarterbacks finished out the top five, with the Washington Redskins’ Robert Griffin III and New England Patriots’ Tom Brady coming in at fourth and fifth, respectively, on the list.

Manning was No. 1 on the jersey sales list as recently as last week, with Wilson only one spot behind. It seems that the 12th Man up in Seattle caught wind of the news and made their presence felt by buying enough Wilson gear to boot this weekend’s opposing quarterback from the top spot.
Wilson might have taken this round, but this victory would pale in comparison to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at midfield Sunday.
