One punt play during Sunday night’s NFC Championship Game between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers produced a whole lot of action.
Early in the second quarter, 49ers returner LaMichael James muffed the punt just before he was flattened by Ricardo Lockette. James was attempting to get a handle on the ball, but as he was spinning around, he got absolutely rocked by Lockette, who also pulled off James’ helmet during the hit.
The ball eventually was recovered by San Francisco, but earlier in the play, another brutal hit occurred. Seahawks gunner Jeremy Lane was forced out of bounds, and as he was trying to get back onto the field, he was taken out by someone in street clothes on the 49ers’ sideline, who nailed Lane with his upper arm.
