Richard Sherman stole the spotlight after the Seattle Seahawks’ NFC Championship Game victory Sunday night.
Now Sherman feels bad about the rant heard ’round the country and told ESPN’s Ed Werder that he wanted to apologize for what he said concerning San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

Sherman’s initial bluster came after the All-Pro cornerback was involved in the game-deciding play late in the fourth quarter. Sherman tipped a pass that was intended for Crabtree in the end zone, and Seahawks teammate Malcolm Smith intercepted the pass to secure the win.
Sherman called out Crabtree in an epic postgame interview with FOX Sports’ Erin Andrews, and the cornerback told a national TV audience that he’s the best player at his position.
“I’m the best corner in the game!” Sherman yelled to Andrews. “When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you’re going to get. Don’t you ever talk about me. Don’t you open your mouth about the best, or I’ll shut it for you real quick.”
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that he talked to Sherman about the comments, and an apology soon followed.
Sherman never is afraid to speak his mind, and in his defense, he backs up his trash talk and comments with elite level play. That said, it’s never a good idea to create distractions and bulletin-board material for the opposing team during the build-up to the Super Bowl, so we should expect a less-vocal Sherman in the two weeks before the big game.
