Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos continues to make remarkable progress in his recovery from leg surgery. He took another step toward getting back into the Lightning lineup when he skated in full gear at Thursday’s practice.

The superstar forward suffered a broken tibia during a Nov. 11 game against the Boston Bruins, but he was able to get back on the ice Dec. 14 and resume skating about one month after his surgery.

Stamkos is working extremely hard to be ready for game action before Team Canada travels to Sochi to defend its gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He’s expected to make Canada’s final 25-man roster, which will be announced Jan. 7. Canada has until Feb. 11, the day before the Olympics begin, to remove Stamkos from the roster if he’s unable to play.
