Tim MurrayBUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres have scheduled a press conference for late Thursday morning, when it is widely anticipated that they will formally announce the hiring of Ottawa Senators assistant general manager Tim Murray as their new general manager.

Murray has spent the past seven seasons working for the Senators and has 20 years of NHL experience after breaking in as a scout with the Detroit Red Wings in 1993. He is the nephew of Senators general manager Bryan Murray, who has mentored him throughout his career.

Murray emerged as one of four finalists for the job last weekend in newly hired Sabres president Pat LaFontaine‘s two-month search process to replace Darcy Regier, who was fired in November.

The announcement comes before the Sabres home game against the Florida Panthers.

Bruins assistant general manager Jim Benning was said to be among the finalists for the job.
