Hull City's Tom Huddlestone Finally Gets Haircut, Raises More Than $60,000 for Cancer Charity (Photo)

Tom Huddlestone haircut Tom Huddlestone knows how to make the best of a bad situation.

The Hull City midfielder endured an epic goal drought by growing his hair out and raising money for a good cause. He scored his first goal since April 2011 during his team’s 6-0 victory against Fulham on Saturday and got that long-awaited haircut Thursday.

Club and media photographers were on hand at the Hull City’s KC Stadium, as Lance Lowe (Huddlestone’s personal barber) did the honors. He turned the 28-year-old’s iconic “Huddlefro” into a fashionable “mohican,” according to the Mail.

“I am just relieved to be finally getting rid of it,” Huddlestone said. “And it definitely feels a bit colder now.

“I had a couple of requests on Twitter for a Mr T Mohican but have decided not to go as drastic as that.”

When Huddlestone scored for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal 32 months ago, he vowed not to cut his hair until he scored again. While Huddlestone’s primary role is that of a deep-lying midfielder, even his biggest doubters couldn’t have forecast the length of his goal drought, which spanned 55 games and 984 days.

After Huddlestone scored Saturday, he got the celebration started on the field. He ran toward the sideline, where Hull City head of medical services Rob Price cut off a big lock of the midfielder’s hair. Coincidentally, it also was Huddlestone’s 27th birthday.

The goal and haircut all were part of a 2 1/2-year campaign to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK. Huddlestone started the challenge with a “Huddlefro” page on justgiving.com, and he has received pledges from over 1,300 people — totaling more than £36,000 ($59,100).

“Hopefully the next one [goal] will not be as long coming along,” Huddlestone said. “The main thing was to raise awareness and some money, and that has been brilliant. In hindsight, it probably wasn’t the best idea in the world.

“It has been dragging on for too long now, and the main things is I managed to get a goal and then raise some money and I can get the barnet cut.”

While Huddlestone hasn’t yet hit his goal of £75,000 ($123,00), his effort is already the third biggest fundraiser for Cancer Research UK on justgiving.com, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, the hair Price cut from Huddlestone’s mane Saturday is being auctioned off on Ebay. The current top bid is £3,400 ($5,600), which also will help Huddlestone reach his goal.
