Lawrence Academy alum and Auburn, Mass., native Tyler Beede has been making a name for himself at Vanderbilt.

The righty set the new school record last season as a sophomore with 14 wins on his way to being a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top college baseball player. Beede, who was a second team All-American, posted a 2.32 ERA with 103 strikeouts over 101 innings while opponents hit just .187 against him.

This offseason, he was named a preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, along with teammate and Vandy closer Brian Miller.

In 2013, Beede matched current Rays ace and 2012 Cy Young award winner David Price‘s school-best 11-0 start with his 11th win of the season against Mississippi State in late April.

Vanderbilt opens the season Feb. 14 at Long Beach State before returning home to take on Lipscomb on Feb. 19 at Hawkins Field.
