It’s been a banner decade for Boston sports, and 2014 could be another banner year.
The Red Sox added their third title in 10 years this past fall, capping a decade in which every local pro sports team won at least one championship.
The Red Sox’ World Series win wasn’t the only treat for local fans in 2013, though. While the year yielded just one title, all four pro sports teams made it to the postseason and then some. The Bruins went back to the Stanley Cup finals, losing to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Patriots were within one half of another Super Bowl appearance before falling to the Baltimore Ravens, and the Celtics looked like they would complete a miracle comeback before they were defeated by the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs in the final showing of the Big Three-Doc Rivers era.
With that recent success in tow, 2014 could be another big year for Boston. The Red Sox look primed to repeat as they bring back their contributors from their 2013 championship. The Patriots take the No. 2 seed into this year’s NFL playoffs, although the hungry Denver Broncos and a tough NFC crowd await. The Bruins have weathered injuries and sit atop the Eastern Conference on New Year’s Day. Even the Celtics, in a rebuilding year, have a chance to ride a .500 record to the playoffs in the weak East and maybe pull an upset.
