USA Hockey announced Friday that Parise will captain the U.S. men’s hockey team in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Los Angeles Kings center Dustin Brown and Parise’s Wild teammate, Ryan Suter, will serve as the alternate captains.

Defenseman Jamie Langenbrunner was the captain of the U.S. squad that won silver at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, but Parise was the offensive star. He tied for the team lead with eight points in the tournament (four goals, four assists) and scored with 25 seconds remaining to send the gold medal game against Canada into overtime.

Parise ranks second on the Wild with 18 goals and third with 34 points this season, his first in Minnesota.

Parise, Brown and Suter all made their Olympics debuts in Vancouver.
