In October, Pujols sued the former St. Louis Cardinals slugger over comments Clark made during an August broadcast of his radio show, “The King and The Ripper.” Clark called Pujols a “juicer” and insisted he knew a trainer who was providing the three-time MVP with performance-enhancing drugs. Before signing with the Los Angeles Angels in 2012, Pujols was with the Cardinals for 11 seasons, where he won two World Series championships with the team.
Clark issued a public statement Monday retracting his previous comments.
“I would like to address Albert Pujols’ pending defamation lawsuit and re-confirm that I have no knowledge whatsoever that Mr. Pujols has ever used illegal or banned PEDs,” Clark said in a statement sent to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I publicly retract my statements that Albert Pujols used such substances. During a heated discussion on air, I misspoke and for that I sincerely apologize.”
The company that produced Clark’s radio show also issued an apology. The show has since been cancelled.
It seems that was enough of an apology for Pujols as he then decided to drop his defamation lawsuit against Clark.
“I have accepted Jack Clark’s retraction and apology to resolve my lawsuit against him and clear my name,” read a statement issued from Pujols Monday night.
