Antonio Cromartie is open about NFL players’ tendency to smoke weed.
The New York Jets cornerback said last week that the NFL should allow players to smoke marijuana because they’re already doing it anyway.
“They need to just let it go,” Cromartie said. “We’re just going to do it anyway. They just need to let it go. They need to go ahead and say, ‘Y’all go ahead, smoke it, do what you need to do.'”
Cromartie gave the controversial statement to ThisIs50.com, a website run by rapper 50 Cent. Under current NFL rules, players are not tested for marijuana during the season unless they’re already in the league’s drug program. Players get into the drug program by testing positive for banned substances.
Marijuana is legal in Colorado and Washington, but Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos players are still not allowed to partake under NFL rules.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the NFL will consider allowing players to use marijuana if it helps with concussions.
