Canada Still Favored To Win Olympic Hockey Gold, U.S. Second

drew doughty canadaIn the minds of Las Vegas oddsmakers, the road to Olympic gold in men’s hockey still goes through Team Canada.

The 2010 Vancouver gold medalists are favored to repeat in Sochi, with Bovada setting odds of a Canadian gold medal at 7-4 entering the knockout rounds.

The United States has the second-best odds of winning it all at 11-4, followed by Russia (16-5), Sweden (5-1) and Finland (11-1).

Canada finished the preliminary round undefeated and earned a first-round bye, but it has a very difficult road to the final ahead. First, the Canadians will face a defensively dominant Switzerland team Wednesday in the quarterfinals if the Swiss can get past winless Latvia. After that, a rematch of the 2010 gold medal game against the U.S. likely awaits in the semis.

Here are the gold medal odds for each team, courtesy of Bovada.

Canada: 7-4
United States: 11-4
Russia: 16-5
Sweden: 5-1
Finland: 11-1
Czech Republic: 25-1
Switzerland: 25-1
Slovakia: 100-1
Norway: 500-1
Latvia: 500-1
Austria: 500-1
