Carl Crawford, Ryan Howard Earn Spots On 2014 MLB All-Overpaid Team (Photos)

Carl CrawfordMajor League Baseball players make a lot of money. The problem is that a player’s financial compensation isn’t always a reflection of his on-field performance.

Many players who land big contracts because of their performance continue to produce at a high level. Other players, however, struggle upon receiving lucrative deals, and those regrettable contracts often come back to bite teams in the you-know-what.

Some teams recently have been hesitant to hand out big contracts, understanding that building through the draft and player development often is the most efficient business model. The Boston Red Sox, for example, were crushed by a few expensive deals, and were able to turn their fortunes around only after trading away their hindering contracts to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In fact, a few Dodgers appear on the following list, which points out the most overpaid player at each position. Obviously, this NESN.com All-Overpaid Team is subjective, but each of these players isn’t quite worth his 2014 paycheck.
