Carlos GonzalezA lot will happen between the start of spring training and the 2014 Major League Baseball trade deadline. The potential trade market will progressively become clearer as circumstances change, needs arise and questions are answered.

But waiting isn’t fun, especially when it comes to figuring out which players might be available prior to July 31. Therefore, we might as well consider which players could become available over the next few months, and which of those players could make sense for the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox’ roster is in good shape, but you never know what can happen between February and midseason. An area of strength could become an area of weakness, or an under-the-radar player could break out and fill one of the club’s few holes. The possibilities really are endless, even if we would like to think that we know everything that’s going to happen.

Right now, it’s easy to see that the Red Sox’ biggest questions surround their center field situation, their infield depth and whether Boston will consider dealing from its starting pitching surplus. Those questions likely will be answered before long, but new ones probably will rise, in which case the trade market inevitably will become a focal point in Boston.

Which players might the Red Sox consider going after prior to the 2014 trade deadline? Well, figuring that out requires a lot of guesswork. But it’s still worth throwing out some hypothetical scenarios to see which players could be there for the taking when the calendar nears July.

Check out the following gallery to see 10 players who the Red Sox could consider pursuing if they are made available by their respective clubs before the 2014 trade deadline.
