A massive pileup claimed 13 cars in Sunday night’s Daytona 500, with Danica Patrick getting the worst of the wreck.

It all started in lap 146 of the 200-lap race, which had already been delayed more than six hours as heavy rains rolled through the area. The cars of Kevin Harvick and Brian Scott bumped one another in the middle of the pack, setting off a chain reaction that eventually sent Patrick straight into the outside wall, ending her bid for her first Daytona 500 victory.

“I felt everything was going pretty well,” Patrick said after the crash, via USA Today. “It’s just upsetting, a culmination of sitting around all day. It’s a bummer, but that’s the excitement of speedway racing, that anything can happen. It’s unfortunate I was on the short end of the accident, but that’s the type of thing that happens.”

Patrick finished 40th out of 43 drivers. Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the checkered flag, his first win at Daytona since 2004.
