Derek Jeter and Dustin Pedroia are cut from the same cloth. So when Jeter on Wednesday announced his plans to retire after the 2014 season, it caught Pedroia’s attention.
The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo asked Pedroia about Jeter’s impending retirement, and the Boston Red Sox second baseman shed serious praise on the longtime New York Yankees shortstop.
Jeter and Pedroia will continue to battle within the American League East for one more season, but it’s clear the All-Stars have tremendous respect for each other. That makes sense given that each player approaches the game with similar grit, passion, competitiveness and respect.
