Gillette Stadium To Host Portugal, Mexico In Pre-World Cup Game On June 6

Portugal MexicoThe home of the New England Patriots will feature a different kind of football this year.

In preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Portugal and Mexico are scheduled to face each otherĀ in an international friendly at Gillette Stadium on Friday, June 6.

The match will feature some of theĀ best footballers in the business, including Portugal’s star forward, Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or as the best footballer on the planet in 2008 and 2013, making him the first ever Portuguese player to win the award twice.

Portugal’s roster also includes Manchester Untied midfielder Nani, while Mexico’s list includes Javier Hernandez, Oribe Peralta and Giovani dos Santos.

“With both of these teams leaving directly for Brazil after this series of matches, we’re very excited to be able to present this unique opportunity to fans of this region,” Revolution president Brian Bilello said. “The chance to see two World Cup-bound squads – and some of the world’s top players — means this will be a truly memorable event for everyone in attendance.”

The last time the two teams faced each other was in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. The game ended in a 2-1 victory for Portugal.

Tickets for the match start at $40 and will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24.
