gracie goldThe United States placed three figure skaters in the top 10 of the women’s event at the 2014 Winter Olympics, but none were able to reach the podium.

Gracie Gold placed fourth — more than 11 points behind bronze medalist Carolina Kostner of Italy — after falling in Thursday’s free skate.

Ashley Wagner skated to a seventh-place finish, with Polina Edmunds following in ninth.

This marks the second consecutive time that no U.S. women medaled in the individual event at the Winter Games. Before that, the U.S. had placed at least one female skater on the podium in 11 consecutive Olympics dating back to 1968.

Russia’s Adelina Sotnikova won gold with a score of 224.59. Kim Yu-Na, the 2010 gold medalist, took home the silver.
