Johnny Damon sat out the 2013 season, but a return to the diamond might still be in the cards.
Damon told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times that he’s open to playing or managing, although either endeavor would need to be at the major league level.
Damon, who has played for seven teams in his 18-year career, last played with the Cleveland Indians in 2012. The outfielder hit .222 with four homers and 19 RBIs in 64 games before being released in August of that year.
It’s reasonable to question whether Damon, who turned 40 in November, has anything left in the tank from a playing standpoint. The two-time All-Star’s openness to managing certainly is interesting, though, and perhaps he’ll someday consider managing at the minor league level to get his feet wet.
