Mike TroutLos Angeles Angels star Mike Trout received a presidential shout-out on Friday when President Barack Obama compared the new farm bill to the 2012 Rookie of the Year turned superstar.

“Now, despite its name, the farm bill is not just about helping farmers,” Obama said. “[Agriculture] Secretary [Tom] Vilsack calls it a jobs bill, an innovation bill, an infrastructure bill, a research bill, a conservation bill. It’s like a Swiss army knife. It’s like Mike Trout, for those of you who know baseball. It’s somebody who’s got a lot of tools and multitasks.”

Trout has cemented his spot among baseball’s elite ever since his illustrious rookie year, and apparently even Obama appreciates his versatile skill set.

Whether it’s running down fly balls in the outfield or crushing them over the fence, Trout’s game almost always provides some excitement.

If the farm bill is as successful in its first year as Trout was, it should be a home run. Listen to Obama make his interesting comparison in the clip below.
