The New York Knicks are nothing if not determined.
Despite all indications that the Knicks do not have the assets necessary to acquire Rajon Rondo from the Boston Celtics, the Knicks haven’t stopped trying to engage Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge in trade talks. The Knicks “know it’s futile” because they have nothing the Celtics want, but they’re placing calls anyway with Thursday’s trade deadline looming, ESPN’s Marc Stein reports.

Rondo could end up with the Knicks eventually — in 2015, when the All-Star point guard is eligible for free agency and the Knicks will have at least $45 million in salary cap space. For now, though, the Knicks’ pursuit of Rondo is merely a pipe dream. But where better to harbor outsize dreams than New York City?
