jacobyJacoby Ellsbury might have moved to the dark side when he signed a seven-year, $153 million contract with the New York Yankees this offseason, but Boston Red Sox fans haven’t moved on from him, it seems.

For the first time in his major league career, Ellsbury headed to Tampa, Fla., instead of Fort Myers for spring training, but the center fielder still got a taste of Boston as he started his season, thanks to one generous member of Red Sox Nation.

“Red Sox fan gave me some free breakfast this morning down here in Tampa,” Ellsbury happily said Tuesday, via The Associated Press. “There’s still the love there. It’s nice to see.”

The gesture isn’t anything new for Ellsbury. He said fans have greeted him warmly ever since he signed with the Yankees.

“At different sporting events, Red Sox fans come up to me and thank me for the time in Boston,” Ellsbury said. “So it’s really been all positive.”

After helping Boston win two World Series titles, the love certainly is still in the air for Ellsbury. Pancakes and waffles, too.
