The Boston Red Sox’s equipment truck left for Fort Myers, Fla., on Saturday. Baseball is just around the corner.
The 53-foot truck, carrying a surplus of baseball equipment and supplies, departed Fenway Park just after 10 a.m. on Saturday. The truck, driven by Milford, Mass., native Al Hartz for the 16th straight year, will make a 1,480-mile trip to the Red Sox’ spring training complex in Fort Myers.
Red Sox pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report in Fort Myers on Feb. 15, and the team’s first full-squad workout is scheduled for Feb. 20. Truck Day marks the unofficial beginning of spring training, though, and plenty of passionate Red Sox fans braved the elements at Fenway Park on Saturday to send the equipment truck off in style.
