FORT MYERS, Fla. — Boston Red Sox outfielder Corey Brown left Thursday’s spring training exhibition against Boston College after fouling a ball off his left hand. Everything has since checked out OK, according to manager John Farrell.
“He’s a little swollen today,” Farrell said before Friday’s game against the Minnesota Twins at JetBlue Park. “He’ll go through a normal activity, but we’re going to hold him out of the game and reevaluate him (Saturday) when he’d be ready for next game.”
Brown, who likely will begin the year at Triple-A Pawtucket, left in the middle of his at-bat in the third inning Thursday. Farrell said shortly after the Red Sox’s doubleheader that there was no structural damage. No further tests are planned at this time.
Brown, a first-round pick of the Oakland Athletics in 2007, is a career .175 hitter (7-for-40) over parts of three seasons with the Washington Nationals. The 28-year-old signed with the Red Sox as a free agent earlier this month.
