Some day, sooner rather than later, Louis Corbett will be legally blind.
The 12-year-old boy from New Zealand has reginitis pigmentosa, a degenerative condition that ultimately leads to patients losing their eyesight. Before he loses the ability to see, however, Louis wants to see his favorite team, the Boston Celtics, play in person.
Thanks to his family’s tireless fundraising efforts and an offer from Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck, Louis is close to seeing his dream fulfilled.
The Corbetts have been raising money for Louis to travel to the U.S. for a Celtics game, The New Zealand Herald reports, and it appears he’s on his way. Air New Zealand will cover the flight cost, and the Celtics have invited Louis to watch the March 5 game against the Golden State Warriors from a private luxury box, according to the Herald.
Grousbeck and his wife, Corrine, have a son who is blind and attends Perkins School for the Blind. The Grousbecks learned of Louis’ condition through social media, according to Yahoo! Sports, and offered to cover the costs for him to travel and attend the game.
