The Denver Broncos’ offensive showing against the Seattle Seahawks was a dreadful one, but wide receiver Demaryius Thomas still managed to set a Super Bowl record at MetLife Stadium during their 43-8 loss.
Thomas hauled in 13 catches on the day, which is the most by any player in a single Super Bowl. He reportedly accomplished the feat while playing through an injury. Vic Lombardi of CBS4 in Denver reports that Thomas suffered a separated shoulder early in the first quarter.
Thomas might have sustained his injury after Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor delivered a massive blow to him on his first catch of the game, but Lombardi was unable to confirm if that was the specific hit that caused the damage. Despite playing with essentially one good arm for the majority of the game, the Broncos targeted Thomas a whopping 18 times and he finished the game with 118 yards receiving and his team’s lone touchdown.
Thomas might miss or be limited in the team’s OTAs, but he is expected to be fully healed when training camp gets underway in July.
