Sacramento Kings coach Mike Malone has been examining ways to keep Jared Sullinger from having another big night against his club, as Sullinger did earlier this month. It turns out Chris Kaman might have done the job for him.
Sullinger will miss the Boston Celtics’ game in Sacramento on Saturday night, Baxter Holmes of The Boston Globe reports. The reason given was a “hard hit to the head,” presumably sustained when Los Angeles Lakers center Chris Kaman elbowed Sullinger late in Friday’s game at Staples Center.
Sullinger hung 31 points and 16 rebounds on the Kings in their last meeting Feb. 7 at TD Garden. This would be just the third game Sullinger has missed this season. DeMarcus Cousins, who also put up 31 and 16 in that game, is expected to play Saturday after missing Sacramento’s last two games with a sore hip.
Rajon Rondo is also out to rest his surgically repaired right ACL as Celtics coach Brad Stevens continues to play it safe with his point guard on the second night of back-to-backs. Rondo played 34 minutes in Friday’s 101-92 loss to the Lakers.
UPDATE: The Celtics announced that Sullinger suffered a mild concussion.
