When Jonathan Martin left the Miami Dolphins in late October, it seemed almost certain he would never play for the organization again. That might no longer be the case.
Martin, who’s started all 23 NFL games in which he’s played, could return to the Dolphins next season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The tackle wants to continue his NFL career in 2014, and there’s a chance he could do it in Miami, but only if the locker room environment has changed. Martin’s representatives have been in contact with the Dolphins over the last few weeks, Rapoport reports.
The Dolphins have made considerable changes already this offseason, replacing general manager Jeff Ireland with Dennis Hickey. It’s unlikely All-Pro guard Richie Incognito, whom Martin accused of bullying, will be back with the team next season.
Martin, 24, would still need to win back the respect of his teammates, most of whom supported Incognito during the controversy. The release of investigator Ted Wells’ report on the case, expected soon, should go a long way in determining Martin’s future with the Dolphins or elsewhere in the NFL.
