Jonathan Martin might be ready to return to the NFL, but it won’t be with the Miami Dolphins.
Dolphins brass spoke with Martin’s agents at the NFL Scouting Combine this week about a possible return, but Martin’s agents said the offensive lineman would not be comfortable playing for the team, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
New Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey said Miami was interested in talking about Martin rejoining the team at the combine meeting, sources told La Canfora. One of Martin’s agents, Rick Smith, questioned parts of La Canfora’s report afterward and said Martin’s camp wants the lineman’s return to the NFL “to happen organically.”
Martin is said to be interested in playing in the NFL again, although a landing spot might be hard to find after the very public scandal that erupted after Martin accused fellow defensive lineman Richie Incognito and others of locker room bullying. The NFL’s investigation into the scandal led the Dolphins to fire their offensive line coach and head athletic trainer this offseason.
