Major League Baseball reportedly is ready to move on now that Alex Rodriguez is doing the same.
MLB might drop its lawsuit against Biogenesis, an anti-aging clinic that allegedly distributed performance-enhancing drugs to several major leaguers, including Alex Rodriguez, now that A-Rod has dropped his lawsuit against the league and the players’ union, according to the New York Daily News.
MLB filed its lawsuit against Biogenesis, the clinic’s founder, Anthony Bosch, and several other defendants last March. The lawsuit, which accuses Bosch and his associates of “intentional and unjustified tortious interference” with MLB player contracts by providing players with banned substances, led to Bosch cooperating with the league in its investigation into the clinic. MLB’s investigation, of course, led to several player suspensions, the most notable being Rodriguez’s season-long ban for 2014.
Rodriguez, who initially was suspended for 211 games before independent arbitrator Fredric Horowitz reduced the ban to 162 games plus the 2014 playoffs, filed a lawsuit against MLB and the players’ union in an attempt to get his suspension thrown out. A-Rod dropped his lawsuit last week, though, and it now sounds like everyone is ready to put this episode in the past.
According to the New York Daily News, MLB also is unlikely to pursue any further action against Rodriguez, as the league is “washing its hands” of the historic investigation.
