Seahawks Lowered Crime In Seattle Area During Super Bowl

Pete Carroll, John SchneiderSeattle Seahawks fans were too busy watching the Super Bowl to commit any crimes on Sunday.

During the Super Bowl, 911 calls in the Seattle area were down 41 percent from typical winter Sundays, according to the Everett Herald. After the Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 43-8, however, calls spiked back up, mostly due to noise from fireworks.

“About a half-dozen people” were arrested in Seattle during the postgame celebration, according to The Seattle Times. There also were two shootings in Seattle on Sunday night, although it’s unclear if they were related to the citywide celebration.

The Seahawks’ Super Bowl win was Seattle’s first pro sports championship since the Seattle SuperSonics won the NBA title in 1979.
