Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara had the honor of serving as Slovakia’s flag bearer during Friday’s opening ceremony at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The 36-year-old defenseman will captain Slovakia’s hockey team, which begins group stage play on Feb. 13 against the United States.
As an NHL star, Stanley Cup champion, one of the tallest athletes and an all-around nice guy, Chara has been one of the most popular athletes in Sochi since he arrived.
