The accommodations at Sochi’s Olympic Village will not exactly be the picture of luxury.
In fact, based on photos that have emerged, the world’s best winter sports athletes will be staying in what appears to be a mix between a hostel and a freshman dorm.

Bruins winger Loui Eriksson, who will skate for Sweden in Sochi, had a simple solution for having to sleep roughly six inches from his teammates.

If the athletes’ lodging seems less than ideal, though, the hotels reporters are staying in sound downright dreadful.
“Almost every room is missing something: lightbulbs, TVs, lamps, chairs, curtains, wifi, heat, hot water,” Canada.com’s Bruce Arthur wrote Tuesday. “Shower curtains are a valuable piece of the future black market here. (One American photographer was simply told, ‘You will not get a shower curtain.’)”
Arthur went on to list the various issues his colleagues have come across before the Olympics have even begun (lost reservations, shoddy appliances, no electricity), with a dearth of clean water seemingly chief among them.
