Customers at The Coffee Bar in Washington, D.C., could get a taste of the Olympics with their lattes and cappuccinos once barista Jessica Lutz returns from winning bronze in Sochi.
Lutz, who has dual American-Swiss citizenship, scored the go-ahead goal in Switzerland’s 4-3 women’s hockey win Wednesday over Sweden.
“I’m so proud,” Lutz said, according to The Washington Post. “I am going to wear the bronze medal when I get back to work.”
Lutz made the Swiss team in January, but her Olympic bid was just the next step in an already-full hockey schedule for the 24-year-old. Lutz also plays in a men’s hockey league in Arlington, Va.
Wednesday’s game outdid the local D.C. action, apparently.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Lutz of scoring the pivotal goal. “It was probably the craziest game I’ve ever played in. … It was a great pass (that set up) my goal. I couldn’t control my excitement, but the coach was telling us to stay calm and concentrate. I still can’t believe what happened.”
If Lutz follows through on wearing her medal to work, she might have some Potomac River patrons saying the same thing.
