RondoPollBoston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo’s leadership has been questioned over the last few days after he decided to stay in Los Angeles to celebrate his birthday following a loss to the Lakers instead of traveling with his teammates to their game in Sacramento on Saturday.

Rondo wasn’t going to play against the Kings, as the Celtics are having him rest in the second game of back-to-backs following ACL surgery last year, but as the team captain, many believe he should have accompanied the team.

The Celtics’ decision to name Rondo the 15th captain in team history was a controversial one. The 28-year-old star’s future with the team is uncertain. He has been included in many trade rumors over the last two years, and his contract expires after next season.

Questioning Rondo’s leadership over this issue seems a bit silly, though. He didn’t skip a game he was expected to play in, and when asked about the situation, Celtics forward Gerald Wallace wasn’t upset.

“It wasn’t a problem to me,” Wallace said. “He doesn’t play back-to-backs anyway.”
