Vote: Should The New England Patriots Draft A Tight End?

robOne of the New England Patriots’ biggest strengths in years past has been their dominance at the tight end position. But in 2013, it became one of their biggest weaknesses, so should the Pats draft a tight end?

The days of the Rob Gronkowski-Aaron Hernandez tandem are long gone, and with injury concerns surrounding Gronkowksi, another weapon will need to be added at tight end. Even if Gronkowski is at full strength for the entirety of next season — a big “if” — the Patriots would be wise to go after someone either in free agency or in the draft to bolster their receiving corps.

Tom Brady struggled in 2013 primarily because he didn’t have receivers that he could trust and also because he was dealing with a revolving door of targets. Michael Hoomanawanui and Matthew Mulligan stepped up in the wake of all the injuries last season, but the two were not enough. Combined, they had 18 receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns in 32 games this season.

Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro, North Carolina’s Eric Ebron and Notre Dame’s Troy Niklas represent three viable options for the Pats in this year’s draft, but do you think they should use a pick on a tight end?
