Wojciech SzczesnyWojciech Szczesny and Olivier Giroud couldn’t run away and hide while Liverpool was trouncing Arsenal for 90 minutes on Saturday, and they didn’t sulk in the quiet corner after the game either.

The Arsenal duo used social media to apologize to Arsenal fans for the 5-1 defeat their team suffered against Liverpool.

Liverpool stunned visiting Arsenal with an early barrage of goals, which left the Gunners down 4-0 after just 20 minutes. The result was sealed before some fans around the world had a chance to settle into their seats to watch the highly anticipated game.

Arsenal goalkeeper Szczesny posted a succinct message on his Facebook page after the game.

Arsenal striker Giroud used Twitter to criticize his own performance and look ahead to Arsenal’s next game (the Gunners host Manchester United on Wednesday).

The Liverpool drubbing kicked off a two-month period, which will define Arsenal’s season. The Gunners face Manchester United, Liverpool (in the FA Cup), Bayern Munich (twice in the UEFA Champions League), Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton between now and April 5.

Cesc Fabregas and other Arsenal fans hoped the Gunners would be able to maintain the consistency, which took them to the top of the Premier League for much of the season. Saturday’s loss was no way to start this crucial period. Szczesny and Giroud know it and have no problem owning up to it.
