NBA All-Star Game 2014Where there’s smoke, there isn’t necessarily fire, as far as Adam Silver is concerned.

Silver insisted he doesn’t believe tanking is occurring in the NBA despite “chatter” from fans, the new commissioner told attendees at the Boston College Chief Executive Club of Boston luncheon Wednesday. He added that the chatter is the only reason he feels an obligation to address it, according to The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn.

Among other topics, Silver also said that European expansion, something he touched upon in an interview two weeks ago at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, is still a ways off. Despite being Silver’s pet issue, raising the league’s minimum age to 20 years old also is not likely to happen immediately, as the National Basketball Players Association has been without an executive director since Billy Hunter was ousted last year.
