1395191846_BjDB0piCMAAAh-8Albany recorded the first win of the 2014 NCAA tournament, knocking off Mount St. Mary’s 71-64 on Tuesday night in the First Four.

D.J. Evans led the way for the Albany Great Danes, scoring 22 points, including two clinching free throws with 12.6 seconds left to seal the school’s first win in the Big Dance in program history.

The Great Danes held a 21-5 lead in the first half, but the Mountaineers mounted a ferocious comeback and gave themselves two chances to tie the game in the final minute of play. Both of Mount St. Mary’s attempts were off the mark, however, as Albany held on for the win.

The Great Danes will advance to the second round and take on the No. 1 overall seed Florida in Orlando on Thursday. The Gators have not lost since Dec. 2.
