Brandon Spikes wasted no time Tuesday making it abundantly clear that he will not be returning to the New England Patriots next season.

The linebacker sent a tweet at 4 p.m. on the dot (the minute NFL free agency opened) thanking the team for “an amazing run” in his four years in New England. The end of Spikes’ tenure with the Patriots was not all sunshine and smiles, though, and some of that bitterness was evident in his farewell tweet.

Spikes played in all 16 regular-season games in 2013 but was placed on injured reserve before the playoffs opened. He finished the season with 86 tackles, one interception and a fumble recovery.
